SAPA

Often called “the city within the mist”, Sapa is a Vietnamese town that lies in Vietnam’s northwest mountains. Perhaps it’s well known by foreign tourists for a reason—Sapa is a blend of both modern beauty and cultural relics. Whether it’s the vibrant night atmosphere in the center of the city or the calm cascading rice terraces, Sapa’s ethereal beauty never fails me impress me, no matter how many times I’ve been here.

THE PEOPLE AND NATURE

Similar to Ha Giang, Sapa is where many of Vietnam’s ethnic minorities reside. In this chapter, you’ll see the photos and snapshots during my journey to produce my documentary The Steep Path. It was truly a chance to disconnect from technology and connect with others—straying from that online presence to be present.

THE TOP OF VIETNAM

Perhaps the most popular destination in Sapa is Fansipan mountain: the highest peak in Vietnam, often called the “Roof of Indochina”. The Fansipan perches higher than all clouds, creating a majestic, surreal scene once you get to the top. To get here, people often go by cabin cables, although there’s the option of trekking up by foot for those daredevils of course.
