MUSIC

During a shoot for my film at 1900 Theatre—one of Hanoi’s grandest nightclubs pulsing with neon and bass—I met Ted, the DJ from Do Nothing Club. We clicked in that fleeting chaos of sound and smoke, and he invited me to lend a few minutes to his newest playlist. For months, I’d dreamed of crafting a secret surprise for my mother during my father’s unexpected re-proposal—a song that married Western and Afro house rhythms with the deep, resonant breath of Vietnamese cồng chiêng percussion.
When Malcolm X’s words opened the track, they felt like a manifesto: to create is to be wild, free, and a little reckless. Because art, at its best, forgets its boundaries—and remembers only the pulse of being alive.
